Dateline - Marshville Mr. Arnold C. "Birk" Birkmaier, 90, died Saturday at the Hospice House in Monroe. Born April 5, 1923 in Hebron, North Dakota, he was a son of the late Frederick "Fritz" and Pauline Birkmaier. He was widowed by his wife Mildred G. Birkmaier. Also precededing him in death were brothers and sisters, Eugene Birkmaier, Wilma Chalmers, Margaret Kovarik, Christine Renschler, Fritz Birkmaier and Arlen Joan Heupel. Birk was a Shriner, Mason and an Eagle Scout. He was an Army Air Corp Captain in WW II as a P-47 and P-51 fighter pilot. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Birk will be held Monday at 11 am from the Marshville United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Marshville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until service time on Monday in the churchâ??s fellowship building. Mr. Birkmaier is survived by three sons, Frederick "Fred" M. Birkmaier and wife Gayle of Wingate; Arnold Christoph "Chris" Birkmaier of Columbia, SC and Robert "Bob" D. Birkmaier and wife Roxann of Spring Hill, TN; grandchildren, Fritz, Marc, Ashley and Brad Birkmaier; great-grandchildren, Koen, Naomi, Laney and Whitley Birkmaier: a brother-in-law, Claude T. Grantham, Jr. of Lakeview, SC; numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials made to the Marshville United Methodist Church, PO Box 427, Marshville, NC 29103.
