Obituary

Mrs. Barbara M. Liner, 70, died Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Hospice House of Union County. Born May 30, 1943 in Lee County, NC, she was a daughter of the late William Velvin Maddox and Mildred Celey Maddox. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Maddox and a sister, Ann Fraley. Barbara was a teacher for 35 years, served several terms on the Department of social service board and was treasurer for the Marshville Museum. She was an avid knitter and used that skill to knit baby blankets for preemies at the hospital and helped start the prayer shawl ministry at First Baptist Church of Marshville. Her volunteering included the Hospice auction each year and the meals on wheels program. She enjoyed playing bridge, loved the beach and making homemade bread for friends and church family. Even though she was a pack rat, her stuff was always well organized and if you needed something, she had it and knew where to find it. Funeral Services will be 10am Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Marshville. Visitation will be 6pm-8pm Friday at the First Baptist Church of Marshville. Interment will be 3pm Saturday in the Grace Chapel Church Cemetery, 2605 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Sanford, N.C. Mrs. Liner is survived by her husband Samuel Jack Liner, Jr. of the home; daughter, Sara Bailey, her brother, Phil Maddox, her sister, Sybil Fincher and one grandchild, Oren Bailey. Memorials made to Holiday Auction Fund at Hospice, 700 West Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
