Obituary

Blanche Harrell Hill passed away on July 11 at the age of 95. Her family rejoices that she is reunited with her husband, mother, father and many brothers and sisters who have gone before her.

Blanche was born in Burgaw, NC, the youngest of nine children. She left on a bus for Wake Forest College at the age of 16 and became the first in her family to graduate from college. With a degree in English, Blanche got her first job teaching high school at Beulaville School, where she met her husband, Temple.

After having their two daughters, they moved to Coulwood Hills in Charlotte, NC where Blanche and Temple taught in Gaston County Public Schools until their retirement. They then built a home on farmland they owned in Union County and spent many happy years there until moving to be closer to their daughters in Apex.

The family was very blessed that Blanche ("Nana") lived long enough that she will be remembered not only by her daughters and grandchildren, but her five great grandchildren as well. She has made an impact on all their lives and will live on through them.

Blanche was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Temple Hix Hill, and her son-in-law, Tommy Davis. She is survived by her daughters, Mischa Davis and Barbara Mulkey (Jim); grandchildren David Mulkey (Jessica), Stephen Lee (Rosemary), Eric Lee (Carrie), Allison Mulkey (Electra), Karen Inman (Charles), and Tina Boyd (Bo); and great grandchildren Regan, Conor, Macy, Quinn and Elliott.

Even as she struggled with the challenges of dementia, she never lost her sense of humor and was beloved by her caretakers. Throughout her life and some of her personal challenges, she was an example of perseverance. Mischa and Barbara have always, and will always, be honored to be "her girls".

A celebration of Blanche's life will be held on Sunday, July 14 at Morgan & Son Funeral Home in Marshville, NC. The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and the service at 2:00 pm. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, 7100 Holly Springs Road, Raleigh, NC 27606 or Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
