Marshville – Mr. William Gerald "Butch" Smith, 77, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022 at his home. Born April 14, 1945, he was a son of the late Paul and Nettie Smith. He was also preceded in death by his first wife in 1988, Kathy Stegall Smith and a sister, Patricia "Pat" Edwards.
He was the owner of Smith Plumbing from 1976 – 2015 and the Marshville Laundry Mat, he loved the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves and was a UNC fan, love to travel, watch westerns and the History channel, retired member of the Beaver Lane VFD, he loved banana milkshakes and chocolate pie. As long as he was able, he was at church. He had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. He loved everyone, had a big (Generous) heart, but most of all, he loved his grandchildren that called him Pop.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Butch will be 1 PM, Monday, August 8, 2022 at Philadelphia Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Marshville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM at Morgan & Son Funeral Home Sunday evening.
Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Peggy Smith; children, daughter, Cherrisse Johnson (Rusty) of Marshville, son, Chris Smith (Jennifer) of Charlotte, daughter, Michelle Simpson (Ritchie) of Indian Trail and daughter, Kelly Baker (Brad) of Monroe; brothers and sisters, brother, Gary Smith (Betty) of Indian Trail, sister, Janice Morris (Gerald) of Marshville, Max Edwards (Brother-in-law) of Peachland and brother, Terry Smith (Nancy) of Marshville; nine grandchildren, Emma, Brooke, Morgan, John, Elizabeth, Jacqueline, Luc, Joshua, and Kenan; extended family, Bonnie Newland (sister of the heart) of Marshville, Deborah Sullivan (Donald) of Pageland, Teresa Eudy (Tony) of Marshville; numerous nieces and nephews
