Peachland - Mr. Charles Thomas Mauney, 89, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Atrium Health – Pineville.  Born August 22, 1934 in Catawba County, NC, he was a son of the late Jesse Mauney and Mabel Hartzoge Mauney.

Charles was a member of the Newton-Conover High School class of 1952. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Airforce. He enjoyed a career in the post office before returning to serve in the Air National Guard and retired in 1987 as a Lieutenant Colonel.  He was proud that he had been retired longer than he worked.  He was a faithful member of New Home Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and many committees.  He also served the Lord as a member of the Gideon's International to spread the gospel.  He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend who will be missed by many.  His family will cherish the legacy he left.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Charles will be 11 AM, Saturday, December 16, 2023, at New Home Baptist Church and burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.  The family will receive friends 10 – 10:45 in the fellowship building.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Frances Mauney; children Cindy Hatchell ( Bruce ) and Kerry Mauney; grandchildren Zachary Mauney, Brianna Nielsen (Bryce), Sophie Hatchell and Chrissy Hatchell; sibling Doris Thornburg.
