Obituary

Marvin – Mr. Cresful William "Cress" Horne, Jr, 61, passed away Friday evening at his home in Marvin. Born December 1, 1959, he was the son of the late Cresful William "CW" Horne and Billie Jo Horne. As a college student at Wingate University, Cress founded U. S. Helicopters, Inc. in 1979. After graduating, Cress was able to combine his passion for flying with his understanding of the business world to create a nationwide company which provided helicopters for Film, TV News, Aerial Survey, and Transport. From the humble beginnings of his company in a barn in Marshville, he began his career by crop dusting and flying aerial surveys of land and timber. As the company evolved, Cress transitioned to become a prominent aerial director, pilot, and technical coordinator on numerous films for nearly two decades and remained a member of the Screen Actors Guild and Directors Guild of America. He then returned to the Carolinas to focus on his family as well as the next phase of U.S. Helicopters as it grew and expanded to other markets. Cress willingly offered his time and business knowledge and was appointed to the Board of Directors of many worthwhile organizations and actively supported many charities that were close to his heart.

Mr. Horne is survived by his wife Shawn King Horne, son Cresful William "Wil" Horne, III, and daughter Skylar Kimberlyn Horne.

Due to health concerns for the pandemic, a funeral service to celebrate the life of Cress will be a private event. The public are welcome to come by Morgan and Son Funeral Home from 8-3 PM on Monday to pay respects to Cress and the Horne family.
