Wingate - Mr. David L. Mahan, age 70, was born in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School in 1973 and went on to attend Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, where he earned a degree in Education and became a certified athletic trainer.

Dave's passion for athletic training began in high school and continued as he worked for several years at Whitehall Yearling High School in Columbus, Ohio. After college, he served as a health education teacher and athletic trainer at Watauga High School in Boone, NC. He later moved to Wingate, NC, where he continued working in the local school district until his retirement, after which he remained active as a substitute teacher. Dave was also deeply involved with his church, The East Campus of First Baptist Church Indian Trail.

His church will host a memorial service at 12 noon, Sunday, April 27, 2025 with a time of visitation following the service. All floral tributes need to be taken directly to the church.

Dave is survived by a sister, Becky (Mark) Duvall; brother, Michael Mahan; and his nieces and nephew, Andrea Duvall, Matthew Erika) Duvall, and Olivia (Garrett) Houchen; He is also survived by his beloved dog and best friend, CeCe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Barbara Mahan, and his brother, Jackie Mahan and his previous canine companion, Delilah.
