Obituary

Monroe - Elder Glenn Lee "Dave" Smith, Sr., 84, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Atrium Health in Monroe. Born October 16, 1938 in Stanly County, he was a son of the late Jethro Glenn Smith and Bessie Lee Herlocker Smith. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Linda Smith, great-granddaughter, Emily Horne and a sibling, Dwight Smith.

Dave was a mechanic for many years and liked to work on old cars and tractors, he and his wife Linda were foster parents for many years, loved working in his garden. He was a patient man that loved God faithfully with patience and a forgiving heart. He was a great father and pawpaw. He will be greatly missed.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Dave will be 1 PM Monday, May 15, 2023 at Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church with a burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday one hour prior to the service in the church.

Those left to cherish his memory include; daughters, Gail Crump (Mike) and Kim Renee Smith; sons, Lee Smith (Alechia) and Doug Smith; grandchildren, Chad Rushing, Kayla Rushing, Rebecca Crump, Brittany (Jonathon) Powell, Garett (Brittany) Horne, Anthony Smith, Aaron Smith, Carey (J.C.) Dennis, Jessica Smith, Jacob Smith, and Nikki Smith; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Nancy Miller, Buck Smith and Brenda Poplin.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials made to Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, c/o Eric Williams 4720 Huggins Road, Marshville, NC 28103.
