On January 19 of 2016, David Barry Rowe died at home with his family by his bedside. He was the son of Forrest Nathaniel (Boogie) Rowe and Cordelia Blanche (Brownie) Rowe of Weldon, North Carolina. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother Forrest Nathaniel Rowe Jr, and his sister Lou Rowe Fisher.
He graduated from Weldon High School , earned the degree of AB in Mathematics from Pfeiffer College, and the degrees of MA and PhD from the University of South Carolina. He began teaching math at Wingate College in 1969 and continued teaching students until his retirement from Wingate University in 2008. While there he served the school however he could including: committees, math contests, mentoring, and teaching all levels of mathematics. His primary joy was always the interaction with his students.
He was a faithful member of Wingate United Methodist Church. He enjoyed wood working, pleasing his wife by accompanying her on their travels, and eating a hearty meal whenever they stopped. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ruth Thomas Rowe, his sons: Scott Rowe, Stuart Rowe and Alan Rowe, two nephews and two nieces, and his favorite cat, Woody. His patience, quiet fortitude, and loving nature will be sorely missed.
Memorial service will be held at Wingate United Methodist Church, on Sunday the 24th of January at 2 pm with reception immediately following in the fellowship hall. Memorials in his honor could be made to Wingate United Methodist Church, or the Wingate University Volleyball team.
