Marshville - Dorothy "Dot" McBride Potter passed away on December 26, 2014. Mrs. Potter was born on December 19, 1921, the daughter of Tom and Eva McBride. She graduated from Women's College of the University of North Carolina and began a long and distinguished teaching career in both North Carolina and Florida. In the summer of 1947 Dorothy became the first woman faculty member in the College of Physical Education at the University of Florida. She remained there for two years until she married William "Bill" Potter. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Jane McBryde.

Dorothy is survived by her sister Anne McBride, her daughter Patty Baucom, her son Bill Potter and his wife Pat. She is also survived by her six beloved grandchildren: Casey Baucom and his wife Brooke, Rose Potter, Will Potter, Eva Baucom, Elizabeth Potter, and Hannah Potter, as well as two great granddaughters, Lily and Brenna Clair.

The family deeply appreciates the love and care provided by the staff of Olive Branch Family Care and Fairfield Manor over the past several years.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Potter will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 30 at Morgan & Son in Marshville, NC. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
