Wingate – Mrs. Edith Goodson, 72, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at her home in the arms of her loving husband.  Born July 26, 1950 in Union County, she was a daughter of the late John Theron and Velma Pressley Medlin. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Medlin.

After graduating high school in 1968, Edith went on to establish a lifelong career with Union County Child Nutrition Services. While she loved her job and those she worked with, Edith's greatest pride and joy was her family. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, there was never a family gathering, birthday party, ballgame, award ceremony or even last-minute dinner invite she missed. As a family, the moments that will be held the closest to the heart are those made around the dinner table, full of her famous fried chicken, exactly as Edith would have wanted. Her love for the Lord, her family, and the Braves will forever be unmatched.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Edith will be held 11 AM Friday, August 5, 2022 from the Chapel of Morgan & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Marshville City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends following the graveside.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 22 years, Frank Goodson; children Angie (Mike) Jones, David (Buffy) Morgan, and Jennifer (Joe) Wooten; grandchildren Shelby Church, Addison Jones, Bryson and Jaxon Morgan, Cameron, Jack and Sam Wooten; great grandchildren Emery and Avery Church; Siblings Libby Neal, and Dianne Laney.

He Only Takes the Best

God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be;

So He put his arms around you, and whispered, "Come to me".

With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away;

Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.
