Obituary

Marshville - Mrs. Essie Carelock Edwards, 91, passed away on Saturday, the 11th of January, 2020 at Hospice House in Monroe. She was born in Anson County on April 25, 1928 to the late Bascom and Mary Jane Curlee Carelock.

She was a loving mother and homemaker, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Essie had a fun-loving personality and always made people around her laugh.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Seaborn Edwards, her daughter Elaine Horne, grandson Travis Edwards, and her siblings Julian, Sam, Cromer and Brady Carelock, and Eloise Little.

Services will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the chapel of Morgan & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in Marshville City Cemetery. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.

Essie is survived by her children, Allen Edwards and his wife Robin of Monroe, Tonya Edwards of Norwood, Todd Edwards of Monroe, and her son-in-law, Delane Horne of Peachland. Also surviving are her grandchildren Chris Horne and his wife Caryn, Dusty Horne and his wife Mandy, Tony Edwards and his wife Jennifer, Shawn Edwards, Logan Watson and his wife Kristin, Grayson Watson, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Madie Godwin of Mint Hill.

The family would like to express their heart-felt thanks to Jennifer Carelock for her committed care and love to Essie, especially since the passing of Seaborn. They would also like to express appreciation to nurses and all the staff at Hospice House in Monroe for their care of Essie during her stay.
