Wingate – Evanjolin "Vangie" Powers Rippie, 90, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Hospice House in Monroe. She was born on August 16, 1926 in Georgetown County, SC to the late Rushell and Rena Moore Powers.
In addition to her parents, Vangie was preceded in death by her brothers, Curtis Powers, Sr., Ervin Powers, and sister, Juanita (Tiny) Cumbee, sons, William Rippie, Sr., John Rippie, Pat Rippie and daughter, Sue Rippie Witt, grandson, Billy Rippie and granddaughter, Vangie Rippie.
She is survived by her sister, Willie Powers Owens and husband Rev. Raymond Owens of Marshville, NC, three grandsons, Chris Rippie, Jason Rippie, Mike Witt all of Baltimore, Md, two granddaughters, Kara Rippie and Noel Rippie both of Baltimore, MD, several great grandchildren; son-in-law, Tom Witt of Green Hill, NC, daughters-in-law, Rose Hynes of Canada, Maria Vitale of Baltimore, MD; three nieces, Julie Brinkley of Monroe, NC, Roxann (Bob) Birkmaier of Spring Hill, TN and Anita (James) Hasty of Harrisburg, NC.
Seven years ago the residents of Gatewood Village in Wingate and members of Midway Baptist Church became part of Vangie's family.
Vangie's request was not to have a memorial service.
The family request that memorials be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe, NC 28110
