Mr. Johnny Fletcher Watkins, 77, of Peachland, completed his journey to his new home Friday, August 19, 2022 at McLeod Health – Cheraw.  Born May 22, 1945 in Union County, NC, he was a son of the late Johnny Bunyan Watkins and Creola Gainey Taylor. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Watkins.

Known to most as Fletcher, or even sometimes simply Fletch, Daddy was a true Southern man. He loved fishing, firearms, and wrestling and never missed an opportunity to remind everyone that Ric Flair was the greatest. Daddy also loved fast cars from an early age making it no surprise that Nascar was a must watch for him. From dirt tracks to asphalt, Richard Petty was king followed closely by Dale Earnhardt and Chase Elliott. He didn't make it onto the track himself, but a country road with a souped-up engine worked just as well and he settled into a career of welding and fabrication. Daddy loved music and fostered a love for the oldies from Fats Domino, Kris Kristofferson, and all the classic country tunes. He was also an avid collector of everything and nothing as was evidenced by his weekly sojourns to the flea market. I would like to add that I've never been prouder than I was as I watched him battle cancer, not once, but twice. He was a fighter without a doubt.

Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Amy McLaurin and his grandson Evan McLaurin of Peachland; his brother Lonnie Watkins (Sue) of Peachland; his sisters Frances Harrington of Cheraw; Joann Thomas, and Earlene Thomas (Curtis) both of Peachland; his companion Gladys Gulledge and extended family, Steve, Sydney, and River, all of Cheraw. He also leaves behind a host of very special nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Fletcher will be 11 AM Thursday, August 25, 2022 from the chapel of Morgan & Son Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 on Thursday at the funeral home.
