First Sergeant Floyd Overcash, USMC (ret) 81, went home to be with the Lord on December 13, 2018. He was born in Statesville on March the 31st, 1937 to the late Burly and Ellen Estes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Misty Overcash and Jamie Overcash.
Floyd proudly served his country for 21 years in the United States Marine Corps. His decorations include the Purple Heart for wounds he received in Vietnam. After retiring as a First Sergeant he settled in Marshville where he served his community and his church, Austin Grove Baptist Church. Floyd was known for his big heart and love for conversation.
Funeral Services will be 11am Tuesday, December the 18th, 2018 at Austin Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps. The family will greet friends following the interment.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mrs. Kathryn Knight Overcash, his daughter Melody Hoyle and her husband Jonathan and his two sons: Dana Overcash his wife Ginny and Andy Overcash. His grandchildren: Robbie Overcash, Kayla Little, and Madison Little. His great-granddaughter Hayden Little also survives him.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Austin Grove Baptist Church, 5919 Austin Grove Church Road, Marshville, NC.
