Marshville – Dr. Gary Wayne Henry, 72, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Atrium Health Pineville. Born March 16, 1952, in Guilford County, NC, he was a son of the late James Brown Henry, Sr. and Wanda Ernestine Hedrick Henry.
Dr. Gary Henry, born on March 16, 1952, in High Point, NC, and raised in Albemarle, NC, lived a life of service and dedication. After attending South Stanley High School, he bravely served in the United States Army at the age of 18. Returning home, he ventured into entrepreneurship with his own trucking business, until a back injury led him to pursue a career in medicine. Completing the Medical University of South Carolina Physician Assistant Program in Charleston, SC, Dr. Henry began his medical journey under the mentorship of Dr. Charles Scarborough serving the community diligently. Furthering his education, he graduated from the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. Establishing his own practice, now Community Medical Family Practice in Marshville, NC, Dr. Henry's impact extended beyond his office walls. From serving as an Emergency Medicine Physician in Anson County to providing care in Autumn Care Nursing Home and the Union and Anson County Jails, his compassion knew no bounds. Affectionately known as "Doc" throughout the community, Dr. Henry's dedication was unwavering, always just a phone call away for his patients. Outside of medicine, he cherished moments with his family, indulging in his passions for hunting, fishing, baseball coaching, and his faith in Jesus Christ. Though he is no longer with us, Dr. Henry's legacy will endure through his family and the countless lives he touched.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Dr. Henry will be 2 PM, Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Marshville. The burial will be private. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12 – 1:45 at the church.
Those left to cherish his memory includes his loving fiancée, Teresa Godwin; his children, Buffie Henry Beach (Jamie), Charlie Henry (Lauren), Garrett Henry (McKayla), Nicholas Henry; his grandchildren, Brice Henry, Brooks Henry, Taylor Henry, and Cole Henry; his brother, Jimmy Henry "Jimbo".
Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Marshville, Faith for Generations Fund, 1636 Old Hwy 74, Marshville, NC 28103.
