Mr. Gene C. Smith, 66 passed away Friday, June 7, 2017 after a brief illness.  He was born in Union County on June the 4 ^th , 1951.  He is preceded in death by his father Lemuel Cordell Smith and his brother Robert.   He was born and raised in Union County. He was a musician at heart and was a big fan of country music. He was a classic car enthusiast and also enjoyed Nascar.

A service will be held 10 AM Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Gazebo of Marshville City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends following the service.

He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Mrs. Nancy M. Smith of Marshville.  His sister Anne Hill,her husband Robert and niece Heather  of Georgia.  Step-children: Bonnie Dixon and her husband Steve of Stuart FL., Anthony Celli of Newark, DE., Jennie Holiskey of Newark DE.; 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
