Marshville – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Georgina (Gina) Acosta. Georgina died on May 12th, 2022 at the age of 80 in Atrium Health Union Hospital in Monroe, NC. She was preceded in death by her father Ismael in 1991, her brother John in 2009, and her mother Maria Angela Alvarez Santana in 2022.
She leaves behind her husband Bienvenido, and her 3 children Frances, Jeanette, and Jennifer. Siblings Jose, Ramon, Jimmy, and sister Mildred. 5 grandchildren Daniel, Anastasia, Orianna, Elijah, Isaiah, and 2 great-grandchildren Luna, and Dominic.
Born February 22, 1942, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico to Ismael Santana and Maria Angela Alvarez Santana, she migrated to New York at the age of 9 when her parents decided to move to Washington Heights, New York, and later moved to the Bronx with her parent's, and several siblings, husband, and daughters. In 1994 the family moved to Yonkers NY. In 2009 Georgina and Bienvenido retired and moved to Marshville.
A woman of deep faith, she lived a simple and happy life. Georgina was known to be a strong-willed, kind, and loving soul, who was a practicing Catholic. She loved life, family, and friends, but most of all she loved God. Gina had a great sense of humor, with a sharp witty tongue. she lit up any room she entered and was not afraid to speak her mind.
Georgina (Grandma, Gigi) will be greatly missed but her spirit lives on to all who knew her. Beloved wife, sister, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother has gone home to God and is now at rest with angels.
