Obituary

Gladys Helms Hargett of Grassy Creek, NC, formerly of Marshville, NC, died Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the Margate Health and Rehab Center in Jefferson, NC.

Mrs. Hargett is survived by a daughter, Karen Hargett Moll and husband Rick of Grassy Creek, NC, and a son, Bill Hargett and wife Debbie of Marshville. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Josh Webb of Chapel Hill, Nancy Swartz of North Port, Florida, and Rick Moll III of Charlotte, NC, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William M. (Bill) Hargett, a grandson, Kenneth Pipes, three brothers, Clyde, Carl and Gradon Helms, and two sisters, Burdice Helms and Beatrice Edwards.

Miss Gladys was a wife and homemaker, a member of Wingate Baptist Church and a former Sunday School teacher at Philadelphia and Bethel Baptist Churches.

Funeral services will be held at Wingate Baptist Church in Wingate, NC on Wednesday, December 14 th at 11 am with visitation one hour prior.   The family will be at the son's home in Marshville. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Hargett may be made to Wingate Baptist Church, PO Box 339, Wingate, NC 28174, or Imagination Ashe, PO Box 1745, Jefferson, NC 28640.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Leigh Bradley and the staff of High Country Family Medicine for the care, compassion and treatment of Mrs. Hargett over the past nine years, the Ashe Memorial Hospital emergency room staff, the staff of the second floor employees who treated Mrs. Hargett as if she were their own mother, the tremendous care of both Mrs. Hargett and her children during her brief stay there, and the friends and neighbors in the county who supported both Mrs. Hargett and her family with their words of support and assistance as needed.

Badger Funeral Home is handling arrangements in West Jefferson, and Morgan and Son in Marshville will be taking care of the needs of the family in Marshville.
