Marshville – Mr. Gradon Henry Helms, 95, died Saturday at the Hospice House in Monroe. Born April 13, 1919 in Union County, he was a son of the late Judge and Rossie Mills Helms. On September 19, 2014, he was widowed by his loving wife Geneva of 75 years. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Clyde Helms, Bertice Helms, Carl Helms and Beatrice H. Edwards. Gradon was a WWII Army Veteran and retired from CD Spangler Construction Company in Charlotte, NC.
Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held 2 pm Wednesday from the Chapel of Morgan & Son Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in the New Home Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Helms is survived by a son, J. Hugh Helms and his wife Frances of Monroe; daughters, Janet Edwards and her husband Ronnie of Monroe and Rita Freeman and her husband Richard of Marshville; sister, Gladys Hargett of Grassy Creek, NC; 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
