Hayward Lee Holmes, 95 died Saturday at the Hospice House on Monroe. Born August 25, 1918 in Union County, he was a son of the late Chappy Bose Holmes and Alma Little Holmes. He was also preceded in death by his wife Athel in 2008 and a granddaughter, Pam Tatro. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Hayward will be held Tuesday at 2 pm from the Chapel of Morgan & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fountain Hill UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening at the funeral home from 6-8 pm. Mr. Holmes is survived by a son, Larry Lee Holmes and wife Brenda of New Salem; daughter, Wanda H. Carpenter and husband Gene of Marshville; sister, Linda Lewis of Mineral Springs; 6 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Fountain Hill UMC Cemetery fund.
