Jane
Godwin
Dec 7, 1942 — Mar 17, 2024
Jane Bowers Godwin finished her journey Sunday evening March 17, 2024. She was in her home of 40 years in Peachland, surrounded by family and entered her Heavenly home surrounded and welcomed by family and friends that had gone on before her. Although she will be greatly missed, the impact she made on the lives of so many will remain forever.
Jane was born Dec. 7, 1942, to Alma and Emsley Bowers in Peachland, NC. She lived an extraordinary life, from being the first diagnosed in Anson County with Polio at the age of two, to becoming the first in her family to graduate college. She spent 30 years teaching 1st through 3rd grade with a true passion and calling for teaching children. She lived to teach and was always teaching someone something, even up to and in her final days.
She traveled the world seeing places like the Holy Land, Honduras, China, nearly all the National Parks, (her favorite being Yosemite), and so many other places I fail to recall.
She met Lynn Godwin at an early age in the small church in Peachland started by her mother and father. They spent 48 years together before he went to be with the Lord in 2013. In 1971 they adopted a son, Joey. She had the same passion and calling on her life for being a mom as she did for teaching.
In 2003, David was born to her niece Lisa and Frankie Godwin. In the moment he learned to speak, "Nana" was born. On July 23, 2014, Emily Rae was born to her niece, Bonita and Isaac Langley. The moment Isaac laid Emily in her arms she was in love once more. She said that Emily was hand-picked and sent by her mother.
The lives Jane has touched are innumerable and the legacy she leaves is one that everyone in her family can be proud of. We've been so blessed to have had her in our lives for so long and the impression she has left is one that will last forever.
She is survived by her son, Joey Godwin (Jennifer); sister, Ann Craddock (Vernon); as well as too many nieces and nephews to mention, to whom she was known to all as "Nana." She also leaves behind the countless students she taught and loved each of whom she would always refer to them as "One of Mine."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel Lynn Godwin Sr., father and mother, John E. and Alma Bowers, her sister and brother-in-law, Cybil and Ranny Garris, her brother, Lewis Bowers, and her youngest brother David Bowers.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Jane will be 11 AM, Thursday, at Gospel Tabernacle in Peachland with burial following in the Peachland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 at the church on Thursday.
