Mr. Japp Grant Gaddy, 90, of Marshville, died Saturday, January 23, 2016 at CMC-Union in Monroe.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Olive Branch Cemetery with visitation following at the Olive Branch Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Mr. Gaddy was a native of Union County, born June 9, 1925 in the Olive Branch community. He was the son of the late Henry Tyler Gaddy and Eunice Simpson Gaddy. He was a dedicated church member, serving as deacon and other positions during his membership years.
He was known in the community for his kindness, helpfulness and friendly personality. Also for his tireless work growing vegetables, which he shared with many others than his family. He was very generous with his time to others and will be greatly missed. He was a smart man and did not shy away with sharing his knowledge. He would offer advice to anyone who would listen.
Mr. Gaddy served in the Army during WWII. He was employed with Chevrolet in Charlotte for a number of years and after his retirement there, he enjoyed working with Edwards Wood Products. Upon his final retirement, he enjoyed farming and working with his cows.
His survivors include his wife Polly; sons, Jimmy and wife Billie Ann of Cramerton, NC, Phillip and wife Donna of Peachland; daughter, Cheryl Anne of Monroe; grandchildren, Leslie Edwards of Monroe and Tyler Gaddy of Marshville, great grandchildren, Jaxson Gaddy of Marshville, Anna Claire and John Edwards of Monroe. Sisters, Lucille Dean of Monroe, Nell Simpson and husband Leroy of Monroe, Martha Coley and husband Jack of Marshville. He was preceded in death by a brothers, H.T. Gaddy, Jr. and Ted Gaddy and sisters, Lottie Parker, Mae Lee and Rachel Haigler.
