Obituary

Marshville - Mr. Jerry Allen Phifer, 79, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at his home.  Born September 24, 1944, in Union County, he was a son of the late Allen Hamilton Phifer and Mary Kathryn Moore Phifer.

Jerry lived a life of service and dedication to his hometown and through his far-reaching global work. After graduation from Forest Hills High School, he bravely served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 as part of the 82nd and the 101st Airborne Divisions during the Vietnam War. Upon his return stateside, Jerry obtained a dual degree in mechanical and electrical engineering. This launched careers in rubber compounding, mining transport vehicles and led to his retirement from Scott Health and Safety (currently 3M Scott Fire and Safety) with over 30 years ensuring the safety of firefighters and first responders at both local and international levels. His dedication to his craft and the safety of others led to many new innovations improving the quality of life of many men and women. Never hesitating to travel around the globe to be hands on support in times of need for his community. Outside of his professional accomplishments and innovations, Jerry cherished time with his family. Often indulging in his passion for learning and creating, leading to many late-night modifications on vehicles and time spent teaching his children and grandchildren. Jerry's legacy will live on through his family and the countless lives touched.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Jerry will be 11 AM, Monday, May 13, 2024, at Deep Springs Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery with military honors.  The family will receive friends following the service by the graveside.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 56 years, Carolyn Marie Kiker Phifer; daughter, Michelle Elizabeth Phifer; son, Bradley Allen Phifer (Sharon); grandchildren, Phifer B. Griffin, Savanna Faith Phifer and Charlotte Elizabeth Griffin; siblings, Anne Helms, Theresa Collins (Gary) and Ronnie Phifer (Brenda).
