Dateline: Marshville - James Luther "Jim" Collins, Sr., 93 of Marshville, died Sunday May 11, 2014 at Autumn Care in Marshville. Born May 7, 1921 in Union county he was a son of the late William Luther and Lillie Clontz Collins. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sara Heath Collins, MD, a brother, Clontz Collins and a sister, Johnnie Horne. He liked bird hunting, fishing, the Atlanta Braves and the NY Yankees. He was deeply devoted to the Marshville Presbyterian Church where he was a member for 88 years. His service included deacon, Sunday School superintendent and treasurer. Mr. Jim sold cars for Bowie Ford in Monroe, NC for years and loved his fellow workers and customers. He had many friends he cherished but his best friend was his son, James "Luke" Collins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 am from the Marshville Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in the Marshville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11 am. Jim is survived by his wife, Sara Lou Collins of the home; son, James Luther "Luke" Collins, Jr. and his wife Roberta of Wingate; 5 grandchildren, Chad Luther Collins, James Matthew Collins, Josh, Jay and Christopher Lee; and 3 great grandchildren. The family suggests memorial be made to the Marshville Presbyterian Church, 501 N. Elm Street, Marshville, NC 28103 or to the choice of the donor.
