Hamstead, NC – John Wayne Polk, age 89, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Wayne was born in Marshville NC on January 1, 1933 to his late parents John and Velma Polk. Also preceding him in death is his wife, Barbara Polk.

He is survived by his three children: Michael Polk and wife Tricia, Beth Polk Dennis and husband Kevin, Charles Polk and wife Marla.

Wayne was part of the first graduating class of Pharmacy School at UNC Chapel Hill in 1956. Upon graduation he was drafted into the Army and served overseas. After returning home he worked at pharmacies in Rockingham, Greenville, and Dunn. Wayne opened Winter Park Drug Store in Wilmington in 1964. Retiring 35 years later, Wayne and Barbara enjoyed traveling in their RV and taking memorable trips that included Alaska, Panama Canal and the Promise Land in Israel.

Wayne's latter years included very special caregivers that enriched his everyday life and brought him great joy.

A celebration of life will be held with those he loved and a graveside service will be on Thursday, September 29 at Fairfield Baptist Church, Marshville, NC at 1:00 pm.
