Marshville – Rev. John M. Wood, 90, entered his Heavenly Home, Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Hospice House in Monroe.  Born April 15, 1932 in Newberry County, SC, he was a son of the late Foster Legion and Lessie Mae Bouknight Wood.  He was also preceded in death by siblings, Esther Corley, Alton Wood and Nina Wingfield.  John was a retired Baptist Minister who served Shiloh Baptist, Abbeville Baptist, Pleasant Hill Baptist, Blackberry Baptist, Roanoke Baptist and Austin Grove Baptist Churches during his 57 years of service to our Lord and Savior.  In addition to his service to God, he was a US Navy Veteran.  John was preceded in death in 2014 by his wife of 62 years, Barbara H. Wood.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of John will be 11 AM, Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Austin Grove Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship building. Entombment will be private at Lakeland Memorial Park Mausoleum in Monroe.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Pearl F. Wood and family; son, Jeff Wood (Terry); daughters, Jeannie W. Hargette (Wayne) and Kerri W. Collins (Gilbert); grandchildren, Jacob (Joanie) Collins, Benjamin (Lauren) Collins, Johnathan (Ginny) Hargette, Andrew (Mollie) Hargette, Hannah Beachum, Zack (Hannah Raye) Wood and Luke Wood; 15 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Austin Grove Baptist Church, 5919 Austin Grove Church Road.
