Julia M. Godwin, 86, of Marshville, died Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Clare Bridge Assisted living in Monroe. Born February 17, 1927 in Union County, she was a daughter of the late James Weaver Meggs and Dezzie Birmington Meggs. She was also preceded in death by a stepson, Lynn Godwin, brother, Fordham Meggs and J. W. Meggs, sisters, Linday Smith and Martha Baucom. A funeral to celebrate the life of Julia will be held Monday at 3 pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 - 6:30 PM at the Morgan & Son Funeral Home. Mrs. Godwin is survived by her husband Boyce of the home; son, Stephen Griffin of Marshville; stepson, Ricky Godwin of Monroe; step daughter, Frances Helms of Monroe; sisters, Florence Huneycutt, Kathryn Edwards and Joyce Bull all of Marshville, Bernice Brewer of Woodruff, SC, Rachel Davis of Inman, SC and Janis Carroll of Wilmington, NC.
