Obituary

Mr. Larry Ralph Laatsch, 76, of Marshville, NC, entered his heavenly home on September 25, 2025, in Charlotte, NC. He was born on May 24, 1949, in Saginaw, MI, to Ralph ("Bumpa") and Dorothy ("Bunny") Laatsch.

In 1971, Larry married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Patricia Kay (Modrall). Together they built a beautiful family, raising three children: Bradley Michael Laatsch (Shannon), their children Carter and Parker, Patrick Ryan Laatsch (Stephanie), their children Lauryn, Reagan, and Eden, Kendall Ann Laatsch (engaged to Brad Whited), her children Madison and Ada, and his children, Braden, Silas, and Londyn. Larry was also a proud brother to Cindy Owen, Nancy Beach (Chuck), Peggy Trier (Jim), and Sally Hudeck (Paul). He was welcomed into heaven by his parents and his brother Terry.

Larry graduated from Arthur Hill High School and went on to earn a degree in Organic Chemistry from Saginaw Valley State University. His career journey was as diverse as it was fulfilling — beginning in construction with his uncle at LR Laatsch Construction, moving into healthcare supply sales with Cardinal Health, and later discovering a deep calling in public service. He proudly served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary on Saginaw Bay, then went on to graduate at the top of his class from the police academy. Larry served part-time with the Tittabawassee Police Department before moving to South Carolina, where he joined the Beaufort County Sheriff's Department full time.

Beyond his career, Larry devoted countless hours to his community—coaching his children's soccer and baseball teams, and even opening CuppaJoe's, a coffee shop where he served meals and encouragement to college students, all in his free time. In Marshville, NC, Larry enjoyed "retirement" by working as a school resource officer at Metrolina Christian Academy, where he was known for his warm presence, protective spirit, and the countless stories and hugs he shared with "his kids."

Larry and Patricia were active members of New Hope Baptist Church of Marshville, where they served faithfully in Sunday school and participated in hurricane relief efforts in Western North Carolina. His life was defined by service, kindness, faith, and an unwavering love for family and community.

A celebration of Larry's life will be 4 PM, Friday, October 3, 2025 at New Hope Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends from 2:30 – 3:45 in the church fellowship building.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 928 New Salem Rd, Marshville, NC 28103.

Larry's legacy will live on in the love of his family, the laughter of his grandchildren, and the countless lives he touched through service, mentorship, and friendship.
