Obituary

Mabel Godley Mitchell passed away on June 4, 2015, in Monroe, NC. She was born on May 21, 1925, on an island off Beaufort, SC, and was the daughter of Oscar B. and Lethard Godley. Mabel spent most of her life in Cayce, SC and Marshville, NC.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Donald E. Mitchell, Sr.; her grandchildren, Chris and Robin Shealy; and her seven brothers and sisters.

Mabel is survived by her children: Linder Jaeckels (David) of Versailles, KY; Donald Mitchell, Jr. (Vivian) of Colfax, NC; Genny Phillips (Rick) of Wingate, NC; and Trish Harris (Raymond) of Richmond, VA. Her grandchildren are: Mary Elizabeth Simpson, Scott Mitchell (Lacretia Conrad), Amanda Mitchell (John Chambers); step-grandchildren: Alysa, Kirstyn, and Brandt Overman and Haven Prince. Other survivors include many nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law.

Mabel valued inclusiveness, being responsible and the importance of a strong work ethic. She was active in the Cayce and Marshville United Methodist Churches for many years until her health began to fail. Gardening, painting, cooking, sewing, and needlework were her special talents, which she shared with many.

Funeral Services will be 4pm Sunday, June 7, at Morgan & Son Funeral Home, 218 Main St., Marshville, NC with private interment following on Monday in the Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. There will be a remembrance gathering for family and friends at a later date in Cayce, SC.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at Carillon Assisted Living, Monroe, NC and Hospice Care Charlotte Region for the care and support of Mabel and the family.
