Obituary

Marshville- Mrs. Marilene Helms Gaye 89, passed away Wednesday the 12th of December, 2018 at Autumn Care of Marshville. She was born in Union County, NC on February the 28th, 1929 to the late Clonnie Ray and Ivah Kate Swanner Helms. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years Mr. Henry B. Gaye and her daughter Susie Gaye Philemon and her brother, Duane Helms
Marilene was the former choir director and Sunday School Teacher at Union Grove Baptist Church. She served on the Board of Directors of Union Memorial Hospital and was instrumental in recruiting many physicians to come to serve the people of Union County. Marilene was a singer in the "Singing Christmas Tree" in Charlotte for many years and was a member of the Marshville Research Club. She was a loving wife to Henry and helped him to establish Gaye Plumbing Company and assisted with the day to day operations. Marilene was an active supporter of many charities located in and around Union County. She and Henry enjoyed spending time together delivering "Meals on Wheels". She enjoyed traveling to the Middle East, South America, Europe and every state in America.
Marilene especially loved her roses. They were her private passion and they provided a life-long memory to those she left behind.
Funeral Services will be 2pm Saturday the 15th of December, 2018 in the Chapel of Morgan & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends immediately following the committal service.
She is survived by two daughters: Kathy Staton and her husband Larry of Indian Trail and Jeannie G. Perry of of Marshville. Three grandchildren: Mrs. Monica S. Schildt and her husband Edward, Mr. Bryan Perry and his wife Marti, and Ms. Stephanie Perry (Ryan). Six great-grandchildren: Sebastian Haywood, Addison Schildt, Austin Schildt, Bethany Williams and her husband Jim, Will Perry and Jenna Perry. One great-great granddaughter Elizabeth B. Williams. One brother, Mr. Brack Helms and his wife Doris of Peachland and sister in law, Pat Helms also survive her.
