Marlene Hawley Smith, 80 years of Marshville, NC, beloved mother and grandmother, entered Heaven on October 21, 2013. Marlene was born May 5, 1933 to Rossie V. Hawley and Naomi Lee Hawley in Dunn, NC. She was predeceased by both of her parents, her husband of 40 years, Charles Smith, Jr. of Marshville, NC and two sons, Randy Brook Lee of Florence, SC and Michael Ray Lee of Quincy,MA. She is survived by her daughters, Anita Gregory of Charlotte, NC and Jenny Abercrombie of Indian Trail, NC, her son Ronald Runyans of Marshville, four granddaughters, four grandsons, five great grandsons and two great granddaughters. Marlene was a gentle, loving soul who loved her family, her dogs and God. She lived most of her life in Charlotte, NC, but also lived in Florida and Hawaii. She enjoyed travelling Europe and within the U.S. She devoted her time to volunteer service including CMC Union for more than 10 years, receiving several appreciation awards. Marlene also volunteered with the Union County Social Services Christmas Bureau where she received the Frances Price Award and the Presidentâ??s Volunteer Service Award. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Hospice of Union County who took such good care of her in her final days. A private family memorial service will be held and Morgan & Son Funeral Home of Marshville.
