Obituary

Marshville – It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our mother Martha Lowery Thomas on March 23, 2024. She passed away at home surrounded by family, after a five-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Born April 7, 1937, in Union County, she was the daughter of the late William Worth Lowery and Kate Huggins Lowery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, William Alfred Lowery, and Thomas Jackson Lowery.

Martha was a graduate of Marshville High School. Two weeks after graduation, she married the love of her life Kermit Thomas. They were married for 67 years at the time of his death on July 29, 2022. Raised with a strong worth ethic, she was always busy. Following Kermit's retirement in 1993 they moved back to Union County to enjoy the country life once again.

Martha will be remembered for her love of gardening, canning, and freezing. One of her favorite things was to invite people for a meal whether it be family or friends. She will be remembered for her coconut cake, chocolate pie and chicken and dumplings and the many birthday cakes she made for her Bojangles' friends. One of the happiest times was when her grandkids would come and stay a week or two. An avid quilter, she loved to make them for family and friends.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Martha will be 11am Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the Chapel of Morgan and Son Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Marshville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
