Obituary

Mary Alice Bryson passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 26, 2019. She was born to the late George Thompson and Pauline Adams Bryson in Lancaster, SC on May 1, 1945. She graduated from Erskine College in Due West, SC with a degree in Home Economics in 1967.
She is pre-deceased by her sister Martha Jane Bryson Griffin and survived by her brother in law, Wayne Griffin of Marshville, NC, four nieces and nephews Karen Schwartz of Greenville SC, Tammy Stephenson (Kent) of Greenville, NC, Gary Griffin (Joy) of Monroe, NC, and Steve Griffin (Tracy) of Marshville, NC. During her life, Mary Alice enjoyed spending time with her eight great nieces and nephews and one great, great nephew.
Malice as she was known to her Erskine classmates and Attie to her loving family had a wide network of friends that she enjoyed connecting with one another. She could be described as a Modern Southern Woman, loved a hat and the color pink, entertaining and the arts yet could be found on the picket line for a cause or campaigning for the candidate of her choice. She also had a passion for animals and was the pet parent to Maddie Cupcakes an adorable toy poodle.
During her work life Mary Alice served as a Home Economics teacher first in the Gaston County School system, then later in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system until her retirement.
Mary Alice was an active member of Avondale Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. She supported the seniors program often organizing trips for the group to various locations usually to enjoy nature. She was also active with the Room in the Inn program. She loved traveling and joining friends for dinners. Her favorite past-time was spending time with loved ones.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Mary Alice on Saturday, June, 29, 2019 at Avondale Presbyterian Church, 2821 Park Road, Charlotte, NC at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Avondale Presbyterian Church Room in the Inn program.
