Marshville – Mr. William Max Hargett, 90, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Atrium Health – Union in Monroe. Born February 3, 1935, in Union County, he was a son of the late Roy Wilson Hargett and Maggie McCorkle Hargett. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Gibson Hargett and a brother Gary Hargett (Libby).
He retired from Alltel after 40+ years. He loved to bale hay and talk to whoever would listen. He was a cowboy at heart and often said he was born in the wrong era. Catching cows, rodeoing and trail riding were his passions.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Max will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside in the church.
Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter Robin Denise Hargett; son, Mitch Hargett (Pat); grandchildren, Jeff Sherrin (Mariya), Kristina Hargett Stroud (Daniel), Matt Witmore (Dusti) and Jeromy Witmore (Jess); great-grandchildren, Makenzi Sherrin, Astrid Sherrin, Aisley Sherrin, Conor Stroud, Murphy Stroud, Sammy, Declan Witmore, Gracie Witmore, JT Witmore (Sierra) and Scarlett Young; great-great grandchild, Ember Witmore, many nieces and nephews.
