Rev. John Raymond Owens, Sr., 93, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Pruitt Health Union Pointe in Monroe.  Born April 14, 1931, in Georgetown, SC, he was a son of the late Jacob Timothy Owens and Alice Cribb Owens.  He was also preceded in death by a son, Jay Owens, sisters, Anna Holden, Tenny Bailey, Eleanor Godsil and Sylvia Taylor.

He started his ministry in 1967 and served many churches in South and North Carolina through the years.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Pastor Owens will be 11 AM, Monday, February 10, 2025, from Union Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 4-6 PM at Morgan & Son Funeral Home.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Willie Powers Owens; daughters, Roxanne Birkmaier (Bob) and Julie Brinkley; grandchildren, Ashley Birkmaier Jackson (Johnny), Bradley Birkmaier, and Anthony Brinkley; adopted grandchildren, Dante, Hakeem and Michael; nine great grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to Union Grove Baptist Church, Adults on Mission.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pruitt Health for their loving care that they provided Pastor Raymond and his family during his stay with them.
