Rev. James “Jimmy” Yates Tarlton, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, October the 9, 2026. Born February 23, 1936, in Anson County he was the son of the late Will and Jessie Tarlton. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Bob, Leon, Roy, Jack, sisters; Pat Helms, and Margaret Hardwick and a son, Mike. He is also preceded in death by his first wife of 63 years, Jane Tarlton. He was also preceded in death by his stepchildren, Suzanne and Ronnie Simpson.
Jimmy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who devoted his life to his family and many church families. He worked for years in the logging business. He graduated from Fruitland Bible Institute and began preaching at age 51 and served the Lord for many years.
The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 in the church fellowship building. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Pastor Jimmy will be 11 AM, Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Fairfield Community Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Plydeane Strawn Tarlton, daughters, Cindy Ends (Gary) and Penny Verbos (Larry); Mike’s wife Susie and son, Jeff; grandchildren, great grandchildren and step grandchildren; stepchildren, Glenn Strawn (Anita)
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Fairfield Community Baptist Church, or Peachland Baptist Church, via their website.
A private inurnment will take place, at a later date, in the Fairfield Community Baptist Church Cemetery.
