Robert Rex Carpenter, Sr., 78, of Marshville died Friday August 16, 2013 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte. Born August 12, 1935 in Anson County, he was the only child of the late Robert Edmund Carpenter and Wilma Austin Carpenter. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Rex will be held Sunday at 2 PM at First Baptist Church of Marshville with burial to follow in the Marshville City Cemetery. The family will return to First Baptist Church to greet friends following the committal. Rex is survived by his wife Reva H. Carpenter and three sons, Rex Carpenter, Jr. and wife Dorita of Tuscon, Arizona, Chris Carpenter and wife Terry, and Jamie Carpenter and wife Annette of Harrisburg, NC; and grandchildren, Cody, Taylor, Austin, Emelie, Morgan and Caleb Carpenter. Rex enjoyed a successful career as a civil engineer for Voice of America in Africa and President of Commercial Products in Monroe, North Carolina. He was very active in his church serving as a Deacon and in his community serving on the Board of Hospice of Union County and Boys Scouts of America.
