Mr. Robert Lee Helms, 90, died May 12, 2016 at his home. Born March 21, 1926 in Union County, he was a son of the late Raymond Alexander Helms and Hattie Alma Jordan Helms. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Muriel Hargett Helms and sisters, Frances Jones and Pauline Griffin. Mr. Helms enjoyed life and desired to help people any way he could. He was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church holding many positions throughout the years. He was a member of New Salem Fire Department, where he served as treasurer for many years. He was a member of the Christian Cooking Convoy, which was a group that sponsored benefits to help people in their time of need. He retired from Kroehler after 28 years. After retirement, he owned Polk Mountain Equipment, Robert Helms Grocery and Helms Tire and Auto.

Funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday, May 15th 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church's sanctuary. Mr. Helms will be open for viewing one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Frances Barbee Helms, son, Phil Helms and wife Nancy of Marshville; daughters, Janet Robinson of Lugoff, SC, Lynn Helms and husband Mike of Marshville; steps sons, Dwayne Baucom of Monroe and Randy Baucom of Gastonia. 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
