Obituary

Marshville-  Mr. Robert L. Morgan, Jr., T/Sgt USAF (Ret) came to the end of a very adventurous 85 years of life on October the 28 th , 2019.  He was born in McDowell County to the late Robert L. Morgan, Sr. and Flossie Burch Morgan.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant twin sisters.

Funeral Services will be 11am Saturday the 2 nd of November, 2019 under the Gazebo of Marshville City Cemetery.  The family will greet friends following the service.

At the age of 17, Bob Jr, enlisted in the United States Air Force and began a life that would take him around the world.  He was trained as an Explosive Ordinance Technician after the Air Force decided that he looked like the type that would walk up on a ticking bomb. This career path led him to five combat tours in Southeast Asia, to include "The Secret War in Laos", where he was decorated for heroism for leading his team through a minefield under enemy fire.

Upon his retirement from the military in 1972, he joined his father in owning and operating Morgan & Son Funeral Home until his lifetime retirement in 1990. During this time, he continued to serve his community in various positions including Town Alderman as well as the Mayor of Marshville. For his service to his country as well as his community, he was awarded the "Order of the Long Leaf Pine" by the Governor of North Carolina in February 2008.

To say that he fully enjoyed his retirement would be an understatement. At the age of 67 he bought a Harley Davidson and rode round trip from Marshville to the Grand Canyon. Shortly after he bought a boat in Miami and captained it all the way back to his second home of Holden Beach. In between these expeditions, he would be found flying his 1947 Piper all over Union and Anson Counties. Aside from these endeavors, cruising the world with Ginny was his favorite hobby. With over 250 days aboard cruise ships from Russia to Australia and everywhere in between, he truly loved life at sea. Just a month ago, he took his third cruise to Alaska.

He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Dr. Virginia D. Morgan.  His son, Robert L. Morgan III,  SGM (ret) and his wife Robin.  His granddaughter, Dr. Amanda M. Baucom, and her husband Ryan of Cincinnati, Ohio, and his favorite grandson, Weston L. Morgan of Charlotte.
