Marshville- Mrs. Sara Lou Walters Collins 94, passed away on March the 10th, 2019 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Monroe. She was born in Union County on June the 20th, 1924 to the late B.H. and Gladys Long Walters. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Jim L. Collins and her daughter Dr. Sara Heath Collins, MD.
She was deeply devoted to the Marshville Presbyterian Church and was a member for over 70 years. Her service included being an Elder and was Clerk of the Session. She was also the leader of many Bible study groups.
Sara Lou was a very active leader of the Democratic Women of Union County.
She enjoyed spending time with friends and family and going to cultural events at Wingate University, shopping, and taking care of her elderly father.
Memorial Services will be 11am Thursday at Marshville Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends from 10am-10:45am in the Church Fellowship House. A private interment will be held at Marshville City Cemetery.
Sara Lou is survived by her son James Luther "Luke" Collins, Jr. and his wife Roberta of Wingate. Five grandchildren: Chad Luther Collins, James Matthew Collins, Josh Lee, Jay Lee and Christopher Lee. Six great-grandchildren also survive Sara Lou.
