Monroe – Mrs. Sara Stewart, 96, passed away, Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the Hospice House.  Born July 15, 1925 in Union County, she was a/the daughter of the late Robert Franklin Secrest and Emma McManus Secrest.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, William J. "Joe" Stewart II on September 25, 1995, son, William J. "Butch" Stewart III, grandson, Chad Stewart, brothers, Robert F. Secrest, Henry J. Secrest, John Secrest and Carl Secrest.

Mrs. Stewart was retired from Wampler Foods as an accountant.  She volunteered at the Union County Sheriff's office for many years and was a member of "SALT" group.  She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a member of the Lessie-Anne Circle and served as treasurer for several years.  She also spent many hours visiting the sick.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Sara will be 2 PM Sunday from the graveside of Wingate City Cemetery.

Mrs. Stewart is survived by a son, Gene Stewart (Debra) of Wingate; daughter-in-law, Pat Stewart of Monroe; grandson, Wes Stewart (Beverly) of Wingate, grandson, Shep Stewart (Katie) of Monroe and granddaughter, Amy Nance of Marshville; 6 great-grandchildren, Amelia Stewart, Ashtin (Tyler) Stutts, Tyler and Tyson Stewart, Audrey and Andrew Nance.
