Monroe - Mrs. Shelby Harward Howell Shumaker, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 6, 2025.  Born June 15, 1938, in Danville, VA she was a daughter of the late Jesse B. Harward and Ophelia Honeycutt Harward.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Boyce Howell, Sr. and Joe Shumaker, siblings, James Bliss Harward and Mary Donese Harward Martin.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Jimmy Howell, Jr. (Donna), Jeff Howell (Karen), and Ken Howell; grandchildren, Michael Howell (Roslyn), JB (James Howell III) (fiancé Holly), Lindsey Sigmon and Matthew Hufham; great-grandchildren, Aiden Sigmon, Jeffrey Sigmon, Gabriella Howell, Raylee Howell, Caylee Donaldson, Emma Howell.

She retired from S&ME Surveying.  Shelby took special joy in her crafts, cross stitching, painting, macramé, and calligraphy, leaving pieces of her talent behind for us to enjoy. The Kairos Prison Ministry was near and dear to Shelby's heart where she used her talents painting placemats for the gentlemen there.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 11 AM at New Hope Baptist Church, 5928 New Salem Rd, Marshville, NC with funeral services starting at noon. The burial will follow at Harward Chapel Cemetery, 12626 Windfield Road Norwood, NC 28128.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shelby's memory to New Hope Baptist Church building fund.
