Obituary

In the wisdom of God, the earthly life of "Sissy" Edna Louise Bridges Stroud ended and eternal life began on December 19, 2023, at her home in Wingate, NC following an extended illness.  Born April 5, 1952, at her grandparents' home in Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of the late James Robert Bridges and Betty Waldrop Bridges.

Sissy was a very loving mother, grandmother, and wife.  As a pastor's wife, she loved and was loved by church members of Shiloh, Marrietta, SC, Centerview, and Midway, Chesterfield, SC.  She was known for her beautiful smile that was genuine, compassionate, and uplifting.  She always spoke kind words that were thoughtful and caring for anyone who gave her the opportunity to be a blessing. Sissy was a public-school bus driver for 36 years.  She transported exceptional children in Union County, NC.

The children loved Sissy and she loved each student.  The students' parents loved her for the love, care, and kindness she gave to the students.  The parents often remarked they never worried about their children when they were in Sissy's care.

Sissy taught preschool children for many years in Sunday School.  She had a way about her that children were drawn to her.  She enjoyed spending time in her craft room with her sister Myra and daughter-in-law Carrie.  She loved her dogs, Molly and Riley.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Sissy will be 1 PM Friday, December 22, at Centerview Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside in the church's fellowship building.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 52 years, Pastor Joe Stroud; son, Chris Stroud (Carrie), beloved grandson, Cameron; twin brother, Sonny Bridges (Pat), sisters, Myra Griggs (Eddie) and Berma Bell (Larry); many nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be made to Hospice VIA Health Partners, 7600 Little Avenue, Charlotte, NC  28226.

The family wants to thank the many who cared for her: Dr. William N. Tim, Dr. Alfred Newman, and their staff and especially the staff at the Cancer Center Ballantyne and to the compassionate and exceptional care she received from VIA Health Partners.
