Mr. Steve W. Perry 73, passed away May 23, 2023 at his home in Marshville. Born December 30, 1949, he was a son of the late Walter Edwin Perry and Mary Elizabeth Marsh Perry Helms. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, FD Helms, stepbrother; Billy Jackson Helms, Sr. (Melven) and a wife, Hilda Perry.
Steve was a graduate of the 1968 class of Forest Hills High School and graduated from Wingate College with a degree in accounting. He served our country in the National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1974. He then started a career in the automotive industry. Steve owned and operated Gaye Chevrolet in Marshville for almost 50 years. He involved himself in the local community serving on the Board of the Beaver Lane Fire Department, Marshville Chamber of Commerce, as well as helping with the Marshville Christmas parade for many years.
Steve was a life-long fisherman enjoying restoration of boats and a love of the North and South Carolina coast. While he traveled much in his life with Chevrolet, he enjoyed his family property and home outside of Marshville. He had a passion for cooking and loved to take food to friends and family in the community. Steve leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, his family, and his beloved cat Tinkerbell.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Steve will be 11 AM, Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from the chapel of Morgan & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Marshville City Cemetery.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Tonda Griffin Perry; his children, Mr. Bryan Perry (Marti) and Ms. Stephanie G. Perry (Ryan); grandchildren: Bethany Williams (Jim), Will Perry (Kayla), Jenna Gallagher (Caleb) and James Griffin; brother, Larry Perry (Renie); great grandchildren, Lizzy Williams and Hayden Little; step children, Tyler Griffin (Britt) and Blair Griffin; stepbrother, Tony Helms (Sue); stepdaughters, Brooke Preslar and Terri Ferguson.
