Obituary

Mrs. Ethel Feltenia "Tenia" Watson Rushing Blackmon, 69, passed away on March the 13 th , 2017 at Hospice of Union County.  Tenia was born in Muscogee County, GA on June the 10 th , 1947 to the late James and Ethel Watson, and moved to Union County as a newlywed with her first husband, the late Allen Rushing of Marshville.

A long-time resident of Union County, Tenia retired in 2007 from the Union County Department of Social Services, where she worked as an administrative assistant for Adult Services.  Before her work with DSS, Tenia worked for several other local employers, including Dickerson, Yale Norton, and Union Memorial Hospital, where she was executive assistant to the president.  After her retirement, Tenia moved to Valdese, NC, where she made many friends.  In recent years, Tenia resided with family and in several assisted living facilities in Catawba County, Wake County, and Union County as she bravely endured chronic illness.  Tenia was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Joseph Blackmon of Marshville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday the 25 th of March, 2017 at Morgan & Son Funeral Home.  The family will greet friends one hour before the service.

Tenia is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Sharon Moore and her husband Dane of Drexel; two sons, Mr. James Rushing and his wife Suzanne, and Mr. Elliot Rushing and his wife Amber, all of Raleigh; and one sister, Mrs. Barbara Carter and her husband Richard of Drexel.

Tenia was blessed with nine grandchildren: Jocelyn, Thomas, and Delanie Moore of Drexel; and Ava, Bennett, Evan, William, Clark, and Alec Rushing of Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110, who cared for our Mother in her final days, or donations to assist someone in need at your preferred or local hospice or assisted living facility.  Our mother's earthbound journey is complete, but many others can use our help.
