Tom Edwards Stegall, Sr. of Marshville passed away Monday, January 30, 2023 at Autumn Care in Marshville.     He was born to the late William Clyde Stegall, Sr. and Winnie Edwards Stegall on September 13, 1926, in Union County, NC. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Collins Stegall.

Tom served his country in the United States Maritime Service as a Merchant Seaman during World War II. Returning home, he entered a career in milling and trucking with his father and uncles. Stegall Milling Company was the largest trucking company in Union County during the 60's and 70's, working the east coast of the United States. He was president of the Stegall firm from 1953 until 1992.

Tom was the youngest man to serve on the Board of Directors of Mutual Bank and Trust Company and saw it go through three mergers. He was member of the Marshville Lion's Club, the Marshville Jaycees, Beaver Dam Masonic Lodge #276, and a charter member of the Marshville Board of Trade. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Marshville, he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school secretary for over 40 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Diane (Bill) Griffin and Kay (Joel) Bargamian; son, Todd (Beth) Stegall; grandchildren: Chad (Sherry) Griffin, Karen (Bobby) Manus, CJ (Ginny) Bargamian, Crystal (Trey) Jones and Zachiary (Britney) Stegall; and his great-grandchildren, Allie, Will, Bea, Braxton, Sophia, Jack, Teddy, and Hannah; sister, Mary Bolt Stegall Thomas.

A funeral service to celebrate Tom's life will be 11 AM Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from the Chapel of Morgan & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the chapel service at the funeral home.  Burial will be private in Marshville City Cemetery.
