Marshville – Mrs. Vashti Mae Medlin James, 97, passed away Thursday at Hospice House in Monroe.  Born May 3, 1923 in Union County, she was one of 11 children of the late George Washington Medlin and Ester Helms Medlin.  She was also preceded in death by her husband J.E. and siblings, Richard Medlin, Jarvis Medlin, Raymond Medlin, Smith Medlin, Irene Stegall and Shirley Morgan.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Vashti will be 11 AM Monday at the Morgan & Son Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 10 – 10:45 at the funeral home on Monday.  The burial will be private.

Mrs. James is survived by daughters, Martha James of Marshville and Wanda Smith of Marshville; brothers, Giles Medlin of Marshville and Herman Medlin of Marshville; sisters, Mary Ellen Simpson of Monroe and Linda Yow of Stanfield, NC; grandchildren, Kimberly Outen, Jody Outen and Adria Smith; great-grandchildren, Jessica Outen, Stephanie Kennington, Colby Outen, Joseph Outen, Dakota Huntley and Mahayla Huntley; great-great grandchildren, Amberlyn Kennington and Emersyn Mae Herman.
