Marshville – Mr. Vernon Ross Haney, 93, died Saturday evening March 7, 2015 at the Hospice House in Monroe. Born February 18, 1922 in Union County, he was a son of the late Vernon Morris and Dara Jane Ross Haney. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Belle Williams Haney, his second wife Ruth Haney, sisters, Doris Edwards and Annie Sutton, brothers, Lloyd and Vann Haney. Mr. Haney was an Army veteran haven fought in five battles: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Ross will be 11AM Tuesday at Faulks Baptist Church with burial following in the church's cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside by the grave.
Survivors include a son, Morris Haney and his wife Mahalia of Marshville; daughter, Shirley H. Riser of Marshville; grandchildren, Henry Haney, Robin Whitlock and Katherine Black; great-grandchildren, Abby and Amber Haney and Wm. Ross Whitlock.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Faulks Baptist Church cemetery fund, 2234 Faulks Church Rd., Marshville, NC 28103.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of hospice of union county for their loving care during Ross' illness.
