Marshville – Mrs. Lela Virginia Perry Griffin, 88, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Hospice House in Monroe. Born January 10, 1927 in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Frank and Ida Caston Perrry. She was also preceded in death by her husband Jack of 52 years and two sisters, Ava Lee Jones and Iva Lee Dry. She will be dearly missed but her legacy of Christian Love and charity will live on forever. She was a teacher at Forest Hills High School for over 20 years.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Virginia will be 2pm Monday at the First Baptist Church Marshville with burial to follow in the Marshville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Griffin is survived by sons, Kelby Griffin and wife Judie of Monroe and Randy Griffin of Midland; brother, Rev. Frank Perry of Burlington, NC; grandchildren, Erica Griffin of Cramerton, Jackson Griffin of Charlotte and Jeff Upchurch and his wife Cheryl of Monroe; great grandchildren, Brittany Upchurch; great-great grandchild, Austin Broome and a special friend, Pat Mills of Monroe.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Marshville, Foreign Missions, PO Box 667, Marshville, NC 28103 or National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
